Customer Rating: Summary: you get what you pay for Comment: i bought this bluetooth headset b/c of the new driving law in CA. i use this headset w/ a blackberry curve and it was easy to pair like most bluetooth headsets. the sound quality isn't that great. i can hear fine w/ the windows rolled up but my voice doesn't go through too well with the windows down. i haven't used it much to listen to music so i can't really comment on that.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great BT headset, everything I wanted and more Comment: The Voyager 855 is a pleasure to use. It is light, uses noise isolation gels instead of a flat speaker, and has great sound quality. I have not tried it with my phone yet but I do not expect my cheap Motorola phone to have a great BT antenna so I will review this based solely on the results I've had from pairing it with my Kensington Micro BT adapter on my Asus Eee 4G (a great combo and the best non-invasive way to add BT to a cheaper model Eee I think).
So far I have had no trouble pairing or using any of the profiles. I set the sound quality to High to devote as much bandwidth as possible to A2DP and have experienced great results. I think that you have to pair this with a BT 2.0 EDR dongle before you can judge the fidelity of the sound properly. Also, most phones have an mp3 player as an afterthought. The bass is comparable to my Skullcandy ear buds and playing Kanye West or Jose Gonzalez is just as pleasurable as it was with a pair of $40 wired ear buds. I have no complaints about the sound and if it disappoints when paired with my Samsung Sync, I will know it's the phone's fault, not the 855's.
My only complaints are that ear loop with the earbud attached is the large ear profile and the small ear loop fit me better, but it's not intolerable by any means and I'm sure the price point would have to rise if they included both. Also, I will agree with everyone else in saying the call button is hard to press. Other than those small issues, it's the most convenient headset I've run across and I will probably use it daily for all of my BT calling and wireless music consumption in the future. Buy it!!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Headset; Poor Headphones Comment: I purchased this headset hoping for a replacement for both my Samsung WEP200 Black Bluetooth Wireless Headset, which I have not been very happy with, and my Sennheiser PX 100 Collapsible Headphones which are excellent. I was hoping the Voyager 855 would serve double-duty and replace both headset and headphones while also giving me the convenience of bluetooth wireless connectivity to my phone, laptop, and music player.
The build quality of the Voyager 855 is excellent. The headset is well put together, the buttons are easy to use, and the earbuds and ear hook are easy to adjust and fit comfortably. I have one complaint with the cord that connects the stereo earbud; if I turn my head, I can hear the cord rubbing against the back of my shirt or neck quite loudly as the vibrations are transmitted directly into my ear.
The call quality of the Voyager 855 is also excellent, much better than the Samsung WEP200. There is practically no difference audible to me or the other listener when using the headset. The sliding boom brings the microphone closer to my mouth so that I'm still clearly audible and the earbud delivers acceptable sound to my ear.
The music quality, however, leaves much to be desired. There is practically no bass to speak of and the sound is generally tinny and weak. It sounds like I'm listening to music through a telephone. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but I was hoping that a headset advertised for music playback would be a cut above the typical headset sound quality.
I'd recommend the Plantronics Voyager 815 - Headset ( in-ear ear-bud ) - wireless - Bluetooth 2.0 EDR in a heartbeat as a phone headset, but I advise against the Voyager 855 as a music playback device. It doesn't even begin to hold a candle to my $40 Sennheisers.
Customer Rating: Summary: One of The Best!! Comment: I have been using the 855 for 2 months now. I am very happy with the headset I have paired it up with my Blackberry 8320 and my Dell 630 laptop. I also use Cisco IP Softphone on my laptop and this thing works flawlessly. The callers on the other end of my convesation never had asked if I was on a headset the voice quality is great.
For music purpose I use the Blackberry 8320 and i have a 2gb card that holds about 10 albums and 2 movies. The music quaulity is lacking but I don't think it is the headset fault is with the current standard of A2DP technology. But this definltly makes it easy to enjoy music and watch movies with out a cord dangling around you neck.
Definlty would by this again!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Product, a bit fragile Comment: I've had my headset for about a month now, and I love it. The sound quality is great for wireless transmission (guess I'm not an audiophile), and the gel earbuds do a more than adequate job of blocking out the outside world. I can now work on my dissertation at Starbucks and not be distracted by all the chatter around me, without having to carry an MP3 player around as well, or have to hook into my laptop. I used the headset to workout with the other day, and it worked very well. Running caused the headset (not the secondary earbud) to move around a bit occasionally, but it wasn't a problem. Once I get an armband for my Blackjack (which pairs well with the Voyager), I'll have my ideal workout solution.
The only caveat to my positive review is that my volume up button has begun to work intermittently after less than a month. My daughter did knock my headset out of my ear in a parking lot a week ago, but I would hope that a device like this would be able to take a bit of wear and tear, since it is constantly being moved from pocket to ear to desk to pocket, and drops are inevitable. On the bright side, Plantronics has been very helpful in efficient in getting a new unit out to me.
So, overall, I'd enthusiastically recommend it.
