Among the unique features of the BlackBerry 8820 are AT&T's Push-to-Talk (PTT) service and TeleNav GPS Navigator. AT&T Push-to-Talk boasts the largest push to talk coverage area in America. PTT features on the BlackBerry 8820 include "availability" icons, quick group calling, and the ability to easily convert a PTT session to a regular wireless voice call. Customers can use their BlackBerry 8820 to Push-to-Talk to individual colleagues or friends, or set up groups for broader communication. The PTT button, on the left side of the device, easily facilitates each PTT call (simply press and hold to talk after the chirp and release when finished). In addition, the AT&T service offers such standard PTT features as call waiting, contact alerts, as well as text, picture, and voice messaging to anyone in their contact list. AT&T customers can also take advantage of the TeleNav GPS Navigator software on the BlackBerry 8820. Enjoy real time turn-by-turn audible directions while driving and walking and view colorful 3D moving maps. The BlackBerry 8820 ships with a number of additional tools, including a calculator with a unit converter and a to-do list. The handheld's software is based on the Java platform, meaning Java-compatible games and applications can be added to the handheld. Vital Statistics |

Customer Rating: Summary: Awesome, love it, phone heaven Comment: Just switched from a Palm Treo and it's like moving from purgatory to heaven: 1) light and slim form factor, slides easily into a suit pocket unnoticeably 2) intuitive, short menus with minimum clicks to your objective, and easy to navigate with one hand 3) fabulous battery life - easily a full day of heavy use without recharging 4) the wired headset it comes with gets terrific reviews for clarity and reception from the people I call, better than my $$$$ Jawbone 5) email setup was totally painless - you put in your email address, it sets EVERYTHING up for you and bam, you're getting emails 6) oh yes, it looks cool, people admire it. Customer Rating: Summary: One Problem Comment: I own the BB 8800, as a matter of fact I carry two of them around (one personal and one for work). The phone is great and has come leaps and bounds beyond the previous versions (which I was already madly in love with) Everything works flawlessly, it is robust (I've dropped them a few times) and for the most part the voice quality is rather good. My one caution is that while the phone is marketed as a "media player" it is really not. The "media playing" software is rather flimsy meaning it doesn't lend itself well to searching, fast forwarding, repeating and the common things that constitutes media playing software. That said, one can get around it quite easily by learning the hot buttons on the keyboard, the real issue is that it uses a different plug from your iPod, so if your car was iPod wired, you need to purchase a converter, this was a headache as some worked, some didn't and none ever worked properly! So now I have two 8800s and I STILL have my iPod in my car since while both of my 8800s have media capability, I can't get them to work properly in my car. -Richie Etwaru Customer Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC Phone!! Better than Tilt, 8525 or Palm!!! Comment: I have been searching for a phone to replace my love for the Palm operating system (truly the best, but they haven't upgraded in a while). I have owned a IPhone, ATT 8525 and a Tilt and find the Windows Mobile operating system SO SLOW!! I also have never found an easy way to link up the contacts I have accumulated on my palm to the others. It is always a painful search on the web and download after download...I also have struggled to get the internet and or the email to synch up. THIS PHONE ROCKS!! SO easy! It is seamless. COnnected to my desktop and added all my contacts, connected easily to the wireless internet (home and work) without ANY pain and the rollerball is SO easy to use that I didn't miss all the touchscreens I have enjoyed in the past. It is also the LIGHTEST phone I have ever used. It automatically senses when you put it in the case and locks the keyboard - AWESOME - no more unwanted "pocket calls" to my ex, or 911) The GPS works VERY well with Google Maps and downloads are a breeze. This is easily the best phone I have owned in decades! Downsides: Internet is not 3G so a little slow, but not bad. No camera (never used it before, but there you go) and the keyboard is a bit small. Customer Rating: Summary: This phone is a little monster that fits on your pocket Comment: I'm not going to write a book like most people do on these reviews mostly because my spelling is horrible. I own one of these and i love it. I get my email's and text's and phone calls all the time. I work at Verizon wireless as a tech and i see people have issues with their phones all day. Out of all the pda's i see on a daily basis blackberry's are the least with the exception of the pearl. Treo's freeze and crash all the time the blackberry is simple and solid. I purchased my 8820 as a rebuilt one because it was cheaper. But it acts and preforms like it's brand new. Every now and then i have to pop the battery out but that's nothing compared to what i see people to through with their phones at my job. My battery dies quick sometimes to but thats life..over all a great phone Customer Rating: Summary: Would be a nice phone if it had a better software application Comment: If my employer did not provide the phone gratis, I wouldn't keep it. The user interface is awkward and clunky. The phone software crashes and locks up often. The desktop software is lacking in basic features. I think my major issue with this product is the calendar and address book. Microsoft Vista Home Version eliminates Outlook. And the RIM Desktop software doesn't have it's own. So the user has to enter the information in Outlook and then synch the Blackberry with the desktop computer. The calendar and address book are essentially useless unless you buy MS Outlook separately ($80) or you have the old XP. Don't buy this phone if you use a machine running MS Vista. Also don't buy this phone if you want to use it as an MP3 player with anything other than the miserable RIM ear buds. The audio jack is a proprietary RIM size and not a standard ear phone jack. And RIM earbuds are cheap and sound tinny. There is no way to hook up quality headphones to the Blackberry. |
