Editorial Reviews:

ETYMOTIC RESEARCH ER-6 Noise Isolating Earphones - ER-6 Isolator Earphones reduce outside sound levels by 34-36 dB (two to three times that of active noise-canceling earphones). Their high isolation allows you to hear the full range of today's digital recordings without having to play them at unnaturally high and unsafe levels. Since you don't have to boost the volume to overcome external noise, ear overload distortion is minimized.

Summary: Best in-ear value
Comment: Sound great, and really block external noises. These earphones are the best solution for noisy areas, like planes and airports. They're also a perfect fit if you wear a motorcycle helmet (might not be legal in your state). I use mina about 120 days a year.

The only negative I have is that the wires eventually become stiff after 6-12 months of use.

Summary: Just bought 3rd pair
Comment: This headphones are the best in their class. They are not bulky like a Bose headphone and sound great. They take a little getting used to, but you will never go back. I listen to rap with lots of bass and have never thought the headphones lacked any. The only problem is the lifespan, mine have all lasted about 1 year. The problem is the poor quality cord, for my next pair I will stop wrapping them around my iPod Shuffle (I never remove them by the cord). Unfortunately, because they are so great at isolating sound (my cell phone went off in the library and I never heard it!) I keep buying them. Worth $80/year!!!

Summary: Goldilocks ear buds
Comment: As in the story, these are just right. Under my motorcycle helmet, they provide clear sound, good volume, and comfort. Most ear bud types get pulled out when you put the helmet on or drop out as you ride, because they don't really fit well. This set conforms comfortably to you ear canal.

They do their job, even at 80+ mph...oops, I meant 50+mph...:)

Comment: Not the most expensive in the world. Gets the job done. Good noise reduction.

Summary: great, but
Comment: First off, these buds sound great to me. I've been using the Sony 71's for years now. These are $50 buds that sound like $100 buds, at least IMHO. These Etymotics are a cut above the Sonys. They do a more complete job of cutting the outside noise to almost nothing. The bass is clean, the treble is crisp. GREAT buds.
