Customer Rating: Summary: The BEST edutainment software ever Comment: This is by far the best in education & adventure. My kids and I played endlessly for years. It encourages interaction with residents and visitors to the Amazon River Basin both in current (1990's) time and historical figures. (E.g., keep you eyes peeled for TR.)
It's a pity this particular software was never upgraded. My guess is that it had to do with multiple owners who paid too much for each of the companies that owned AT3 in succession. It would be wonderful if AT3's current owner -who obviously doesn't care about it any longer- could offer it to the open source community to update it and add to it.
Customer Rating: Summary: GREAT Kid's Game Comment: This was one of my favorite games as a kid! I cannot tell you how many times I played, and replayed, and replayed again. The educational value is great; I remember knowing about the Conquistadors and tapirs before anyone else in my second grade class. It was fascinating how I could go back in time to visit Henry Ford's rubber plantation or talk to a biologist about the kudzu infestation. The graphics may be low for a kid used to hi-def precision and god-mode simulators, but the game has great entertainment and education value. I really recommend it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fun, but buggy Comment: i'm not sure if it was just me or what, but all three computers i have tried it on, it didn't work very well. it crashed constantly. i got around it by saving my game a lot, but it was still annoying. if you look beyond the crashing, it is pretty fun, but it also installed without sound. given the fact that it is so cheap, i think it would be worth while for you to try it, but beware the potential bugs.
Customer Rating: Summary: great seller Comment: item didnt work for my computer (it was a mac), but they processed a return promptly. they are awesome
Customer Rating: Summary: Boring Game!!! Comment: I was excited to play this game with my children. We love the Oregon Trail, we can strategize, hunt, fish, gather, pick our party, shop for supplies, change our course, view our course and have continuous updates on progress, health, etc. We can quickly jump around to check all of the above. The graphics are great, and the program always manages to surprise. In short, the Amazon Trail possesses none of these qualities. It is slow, boring, and somewhat confusing. As my daughter puts it - "You are always doing the same thing." Even when you go exploring, it takes a while for the scenery to change. We have played this game for hours and not gotten anywhere. We have explored the guide book, and gotten little useful information. The graphics are blurry, and you have to manually adjust the screen resolution to see what you are doing. The interactive guide is boring, and there is no opportunity for change, strategy, or drama. This game is a waste of money and time - unfortunately I spent full price. DON'T BUY IT!
