Customer Rating: Summary: Big things comes with pros and cons Comment: I purchased this laptop two months back and am fairly satisfied with the performance. The good things are:
1) At this price (sub $ 1000) this laptop is a steal
2) Blu ray experiene is awesome
3) My laptop has integrated Bluetooth and Finger print reader as well (Amazon's description does not specify this anywhere that the laoptop ccontains both these features)
4) 4 GB RAM and 320 GB of Hard disk surely will take care of the future needs (atleast for two years)
5) Aero Interface experience is awesooomeee.
6) The Graphics card will take care of the most of the games released so far (and to be released as well in 2009)
7) 17 inch screen is a treat to eyes. Blu ray experience and watching DVD on a widescreen is an awesome experience
Bad things:
1) Even 4 GB of RAM fails to fasten up the system (may be beacuse of slow Windows Vista and that too premium version). I think if this much RAM was available on windows XP. The system would have have run like a shuttle
2) Amazon's description mentions 4 USB ports while only three are there.
3) battery back up (as mentioned by all reviewers) is poor. max 1.5 hrs of back up is there
4) It is too bulky (can be used for biceps curl). 4 kgs of weight makes it non portable
5) Placement of audio headphone jack. This is a pain and I wonder why HP people, placed the jack in the front. If you attach an external speaker, all the beauty of the laptop is gone while make the working irritating as well (as you keep seeing the wandering wire)
6) Don't know why description in Amazon's web site doesn't show Intergrated Bluetooth and Finger print reader as a standard feature of this notebook
The above mentioned points are only general in nature. One specific negative about the piece I have is that while working in IE, right click functions are not working with a mouse (found it very weired)
Customer Rating: Summary: Consumer Alert! Comment: My hard drive went bad on this item. I tried to send my pc in for warranty repair but instead they sent me a hard drive to replace it. I returned the old hard drive but hp said that I did not. They charged me close to another $1,000 for the missing hard drive. That is close to double the price that I payed for it. Save the package tracking number or prepare to pay the cost of a brand new computer!
Customer Rating: Summary: No returns on laptops Comment: It is a shame that companies can't take returns on laptops. I have always been happy with HP products. This laptop is defective. The volume won't work on the computer and it has some problems with the sound card which result in a loud annoying noise whenever the computer is on.
I have to send it to HP to get it fixed. They say it will be free. I only had this computer for 2 weeks when the problems started.
Customer Rating: Summary: Heat/harddrive issues. Oh yeah, Vista sucks Comment: So... this thing is beautiful. When it is working, it is a wonderful thing. But then, sooner or later, you will notice the laptop getting hot from the bottom center area. The you will notice applications getting hard to open up and taking time. Many programs like the internet or media player will show you "failure to respond" notices and close. Then...your harddrive will fail. you will be unable to retrieve any info. HP's customer service is pretty good. Within 10 minutes they were able to figure out that the drive died and were already setting me up with delivery for a new HD. (mind you- this was within 6 months of owning it.) Unlike Dell, they do not send a technician free of charge to your house. They have you call them for instructions. Second, they demand your credit information and threaten to bill you if you do not send the broken Harddrive to them within 3 days of recieving the new one. Now, seems like the new one is doing okay so far. media player doesn't crash like the old HD did. But, I am noticing the underside getting hot now. I have my laptop raised on vitamin water caps on all four (works, trust me) and have a small desk fan run cool air underneath. One thing, i upgraded the Norton antivirus program it comes with after 60 days to Norton 2.0 360. Not sure if that may have caused the crashes or not. only time will tell. I wish I would have bought a Toshiba or Dell. Save your money or buy extended full waranty. trust me.
