Customer Rating: Summary: Have to order a replacement Comment: I have a big problem with this computer. It loses power intermittently and after that I cannot even turn it on. Sometimes I have to wait an hour, sometimes a couple of days passed before it would turn on. Looks like a major hardware problem. I called HP and they would not replace it. Told me that I need to send it to them for repair which would take at least 2 weeks. So, I'm returning it to Amazon and getting another one. Hopefully, this time it will be a different story. Otherwise, the computer is nice.
Customer Rating: Summary: HP IQ504 Comment: Everything has worked great so far. Setup was easy, the touchsmart is really neat. The only anoyance so far is to use the touchsmart you have to be in 96dpi mode. This makes the icons so small you cannot touch one at a time. To get larger icons you have to switch to the 120dpi mode which then means you can't use the touchsmart mode. I asked H/P about this and they told me that eventually they would make a fix for the problem.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice computer for the techie in all of us Comment: I bought this computer on Sunday, and though I've heard all the belly-aching about Vista, there isn't any viable alternative other than Mac OSX on Apple.
Anyhow this computer so far is a dream. Vista took only a few minutes to initalize, it detected my wireless network, accepted my password, and was online in only a few moments. It literally walked it's self through the process. All the specs have been typed before, so I won't repeat. Lets say that the system is fast and have found no problems thus far with Vista. There is even an installed program in the control panel that will look at older programs you install and make them work with this computer.
Oh yes, the main event...the touch screen. NICE! The screen completes what the mouse started in the 90's. That is integration of the human with the machine. Instead of using just a mouse to interface, you simply select an option onscreen with a finger touch. As natural as what you would do with a book, or magazine. You can even surf the web using a single finger to click hyperlinks. ( I know I tried it )
So far I am very happy with this computer, and I have to say that HP is on top of their game with this innovation, and melding of technologies.
As a side note, Dell has a touch screen computer as well. However their specs aren't as robust as HP's and the pricing is higher. If a Innovative computer is what your looking for, this is the one.
Customer Rating: Summary: Simply clean, fast and beautiful computer Comment: I use to work on Mac and other good computers and must say that this HP is surprising! It's above any iMac (I can't prevent myself from comparing it to an iMac because of the design and the fact it's all integrated into the screen) offering the power of a good mid/up class PC (including Macs) without the huge heavy and often ugly box, at a reasonnable price... and plus you have a touch screen!
Two months ago I tried the entry level TouchSmart (I think it was the iQ504 ?) at the shop and was actually disapointed by the graphic board. But everything else was seducing : screen is great, bright, beautiful. Lovely touchscreen, keyboard and mouse are really nice, etc... so I wanted to know more about that fancy new HP and make sure there's not a way to tune it (like to replace the GPU, and so on).
But then I discovered that HP used a cheap integrated graphic board (the Intel Graphics something) based on their mainstream crap for the less expansive 504. But I quickly saw that the iQ506 had an nVidia GeForce GPU and a Core 2 Duo CPU !
So I decided to order one and here it is.
The first thing I would say against this computer is that the TouchSmart applications are a bit slow when you launch them. But to continue the comparaison it is not as slow as using the finder or Photoshop on an iMac.
The second thing would be : MORE, PLEASE ! We want more touchscreen, even multitouch. Because this computer is actually capable of multitouch. Indeed, when you use both fingers in the smarttouch gallery you resize the previews. So this is a bit frustrating since we feel like it could do what Apple showed us how cool it can be on the iPhone : I would like to take anything in the explorer and rotate, zoom and move it with my two hands... wouldn't you ?!
I'd like to share the idea that it's a good thing to see that 'dinos' like HPs are still in the wind and don't let smaller hardware companies like Apple take the market. I was always always wondering what these guys are waiting for to react and make good and sexy computers like Apple use to do. This opens the battle and this is always good for us consumers.
BTW I discovered recently that Apple didn't invent anything about touchscreen and multitouch, and that people at Microsoft, Xerox and some other companies have been the actual pioneers... so once again it's good to see some competition here, that will give us the choice and hopefully democratize the touchscreen!
The next dream would be that HP (or any other) sell a generic LCD screen that would have some good touchscreen capability and drivers for Vista and Mac OS...
Customer Rating: Summary: Pleasantly Surprised !!! Comment: Anytime new electronics come out, you need to be a little skeptical.
However, I already have a VISTA pc and have had very few problems so far, and it's been about a year.
So I decided to take a gamble and I'm happy I did.
I was also surprised that the Touch screen works with almost all programs so far.
I did have 1 issue with the DVD Multi drive. Hoever, HP quickly sent a new one, which gave me an opportunity to check out the inside of the unit.
Also, it is very fast and with games infull screen on the 22" screen is pretty cool!
No complaints so far.
