The Archos home DVR station provides a convenient way to record TV and most video sources in MPEG4 format straight onto any Archos generation 5 device for later playback with DVD quality resolution. You can even set a personalized schedule with the DVR station and a generation 5 device to record your favorite TV shows. For added convenience, the DVR station is compatible with WiFi-enabled generation 5 devices, which allows you to stream video files from a PC onto your TV. What's in the Box DVR Station Gen 5, remote control, AC/DC power adapter, two 2RCA/2RCA cables, two S-Video cables, and owner's manual.

Customer Rating: Summary: Ok device for helping Archos products to become DVR's Comment: Well, I might of rated this product higher had I not had to send it in for repair after owning it for just one month. I have read other reviews that say the DVR Station sucks. I don't think of it that strongly but the fact that it failed so soon is why I rated it lower. It had an issue where when connected to my also new 605 wifi, it stopped showing a recording tab in the recorder. It also wouldn't allow the 605 to show on my TV when pushing the TV button. The red LED would come on but no picture would appear on screen. For some reason, since the repair, the LED isn't showing as brightly and my 605 wifi is now really having some issues with downloading and setting up the channel menu and seems to make the hard drive on the 605 churn forever, which it only used to do that when I would download the two week channel schedule. That I could understand. It also freaked out with the sound and wouldn't play back any sound until I completely reset the power on the 605 and DVR Station. Now, I think, they are working like normal. I have it set to record a program tonight. We'll see what happens. I also gave it lower marks because of the very small output jack that is used for connecting the SPDIF. I don't know why ARCHOS couldn't have installed a normal RCA type jack for that connection, just like all other audio equipment I own that also supports an RCA type connection for the subwoofer as well. I do like that it has component jack inputs and outputs for a better picture quality, as well as s-video. All in all, I think the whole idea of using all these devices interconnected together to make a small yet compact DVR solution is a pretty good idea. I still feel that ARCHOS needs to provide it all as one large package for the consumer at a reasonable price so when he or she buys the product, they don't find theirselves waiting for several different deliveries so that they may enjoy everything ARCHOS specifies in it's owners manuals the product is supposed to be able to do. This is a much better solution than asking people to hunt and peck for the rest of the devices they need and waiting for delivery for a full functioning unit. If the person doesn't want to use some of the package at the time, they don't have to. If you're like me, you'll be thankful you have the other pieces already bought and paid for and safely stowed away for use at a later date, than having to come up with the extra cash and hope they are still available at your favorite shopping place on line when you decide you are now ready for the full enjoyment of the product.
Customer Rating: Summary: best accesory ever Comment: It is a bit pricey but for what it does it. It is worth every penny. I can't see a reason to buy an archos with out one.
Customer Rating: Summary: Just we we needed! Comment: My husband needed an extra docking station that he could use in his vehicle and Amazon.com had the best price compared to many.
Thanks!
Customer Rating: Summary: Works well Comment: I often use this to record a show if I am busy elsewhere. It works very well for recording, but the menu is sometimes a hassle. Also, I believe that you have to have the cable box set on the correct channel to record.
I also want to note that for a time the server was down that you use to update your TV guide (which is normally as easy process). It's back up and working now though.
Overall I would recommend this if you do not have TiVo or a DVR and you like to record shows for later viewing. That it works as charger is a good bonus.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very Poor Quality Workmanship Comment: I have had this device since February 2008. When I received it, there was a little rattle that I could hear, but it worked fine. After about a month of use, all of the sudden it would not work. It would charge the Archos fine, but no output to the TV. I contacted Archos and they had me send it in, on my dime.
Well, if you haven't dealt with Archos customer support before, be ready for lots of waiting and people that know very little about their product. The first lady I talked to didn't know the difference between a DVR and the Archos unit. I finally got a ticket to send it in, and even though their warehouse is a short distance from my house, they required I pay for shipping. They spent 2 weeks trying to fix it, then sent it back. There was no difference in the performance. The same problem still exsisted. So I had to contact them again and pay for shipping, AGAIN! I just got it back, it is now October, and the S-video output still doesn't work. Luckily, I have an adapter for S-video to RCA so I know it somewhat works. If I didn't, I would have to go buy an adapter or a different cable. They only include an S-video cable with the unit.
So, buyer beware with this product. I also have an external battery pack that outputs to the TV and can plug into the wall for charging, so I would recommend that product instead of this one. It is cheaper, less bulky, and has less parts.
