Customer Rating: Summary: Avoid this printer Comment: Worse printer I've ever had. It's unfortunate too because the print quality is phenominal and it has a lot of great features. But it burns through (expensive) ink very quickly, will not support refils at all, and WILL NOT WORK IF ONE OR MORE OF THE COLORS IS EXPENDED. So even if you just want to print b/w and your cyan cart is dry, the printer is a brick. Terrible design. It's my wife's printer and she has to do a LOT of printing, so we go through a lot of ink. I spend more time and money (~$40 for new ink carts each time) trying to keep this thing up and running. I hate it. Will never buy another Epson.
Customer Rating: Summary: No drivers for new mac OS 10.5 on non-intel machines! Comment: I have a G5 mac that worked fine with the printer using OS 10.3. I just upgraded to the new Leopard OS 10.5 and now the cx8400 won't print at all. It just keeps spitting out sheet after sheet of blank paper till the bin is empty! There is no work around that I have found, and Epson has not made any drivers available for Mac users on older non-intel based machines. I am sure there are many of these machines around, and yet we have been ORPHANED by Epson.
SEPT.1, 2008.....EPSON has fixed the bug, and now this printer works with the new OS. Their website has the new drivers, but you must first delete the old driver. Install the new drivers, then plug in the printer and turn it on.
Customer Rating: Summary: NOT AS BAD AS YOU THINK!! Comment: I bought mine in Canada and was able to yeild about 106 pages of full color printouts before my ink was low. And I use a compatible cartridge that retails for $4.99 for each color the yield amount on these cartridges is 24ml here in Canada that is why I got so many pages of full color. The bad part is that it is a noisy printer but if you put a piece of thin sponge under it the noise is muffled. you can scan when there is no ink.. that is only if you are doing a copy or scanning to print then you can't but scanning to the computer shouldn't matter of how much ink there is. I have used Epson printers since the early 80's and have had no problems in the past. For all those who are having trouble make sure you read the manuall or go online like I did and find a patch that will render the computer chip in the printer to trick it into thinking the cartridges are full I use it and use my cartridges till the paper is blank. Hope this helps... P.S. When using photo paper get a low or no glossy finish as this uses less ink and use inkjet paper instead of multi-use since inkjet paper uses a coating on it so it dosen't absorb so much ink that is why I yield so many pages of full color it is a few dollars more but worth it! Thanks
Customer Rating: Summary: Good quality, inexpensive printer Comment: I had the Epson CX5400 for almost 6 years before it died. I'm a Realtor and I needed to print color brochures quickly. I like Epson and for the price it couldn't be beat. I don't care about the direct memory card slot because I prefer to print from my computer. It's more compact then the CX5400. Print quality is great and fast. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out the scanning process. But then it worked fine. I had to through out 4 of the CX5400 new printer cartridges because they did fit in the CX8400. All in all it's a good printer and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good quality, inexpensive printer.
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointed Epson Customer Comment: My previous all-in-1 printer was an Epson CX6600 and it served me faithfully for years. On the basis of past experience, I bought a CX9400 without reading the reviews and everything you've heard is true. First it wouldn't recognize it's factory ink cartridges and then after 20 pages it told me it was almost out of ink. With any luck, I'm still within the return period and you can bete I'm telling Epson what I think.
